Mike Birbiglia:
In 2nd grade I won the "Author of the Month" at St. Mary's School in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts for my poetry about bears and my sister and Thanksgiving. My aspirations were to be a poet, a teacher, or the owner of a pizza restaurant where 2nd graders could hang out. In 6th grade, I wrote a rap song for the graduation ceremony of the D.A.R.E. program. I decided that I wanted to be a rapper, a break-dancer or the owner of a pizza restaurant where 6th graders could hang out. In high school, I started a sketch comedy group called "The Sickies." Then I went to college in DC and got a job at the D.C. Improv, where I worked in the ticket window, developed an act, and decided to be a comedian. Then I moved to New York City and got asked to be on The Late Show with David Letterman. This led to a bunch of television appearances on other talk shows and my own Comedy Central Presents special. Now I live in Greenwich Village and tour the country. I keep a journal called MY SECRET PUBLIC JOURNAL, which i read live on The Bob and Tom radio show and email to a bunch of people. (you can sign up, too!) This winter, I'm releasing my debut CD from Comedy Central Records called 2 DRINK MIKE, I'm taping another Comedy Central special, and am going out on Comedy Central's 20 college MEDIUM MAN ON CAMPUS TOUR. My aspirations now are to be an author, a filmmaker and the owner of a pizza restaurant where 27 year olds can hang out.
